Testing, activating and removing a provider

Check that a provider is reachable, bring a keyless provider back online, and remove a provider you no longer use.

For: Administrators (the admin ability) · Last updated

These actions are buttons on each provider's row under Settings, Administration, Model Providers. They need the admin ability.

Test a provider#

Select Test on an active provider. The product asks the provider for its model list, which confirms the address is reachable and the key is accepted. It sends no model request, so a test never costs you money.

  • On success the row shows "✓ N models found", and the model chips refresh.
  • On failure it shows "✗" followed by the provider's error.

Test appears only on active providers. Run it after you add or replace a key, or when a Coworker reports it cannot reach its model.

Activate a provider#

An inactive provider shows Activate when it has a stored key or a base URL. Select it to set the provider back to active. A provider with neither shows no Activate button; select Add key and save a key instead, which also activates it.

Remove a provider#

  1. Select Remove.
  2. In the dialog "Remove name?", read "Its key is deleted immediately. Coworkers bound to this provider will block the removal."
  3. Select Remove provider.

The removal is refused, with a message, when any of these is true:

  • Coworkers are bound to the provider. The message lists up to five of them. Rebind those Coworkers to another provider first.
  • The provider backs the company default model or default embeddings model. You cannot remove the default provider; clear or change the default under Default models first.
  • A knowledge base was created with the provider's embedding model.

Removal is permanent. To keep the provider but stop using it, use Deactivate instead (see Provider keys).
