Browsing and searching knowledge bases
Find knowledge bases, search across their documents, open one, and export it.
A knowledge base is a collection of documents your Coworkers can draw on and cite when they answer. Open Knowledge Bases in the top navigation to see them. The page is introduced with "What your Coworkers can draw on and cite when answering."
The list#
Each knowledge base is a card showing:
- its name, which opens the knowledge base
- a Human only tag when Coworkers are not allowed to use it (see Human-only knowledge bases)
- how often it is updated, or "no set cadence", and its owner
- its update path, which says where updates come from
- "Used by" followed by the Coworkers that use it. A knowledge base that no Coworker uses says it is not attached to any Coworker, or "For people only" when it is human only.
You see every knowledge base in your company, except those that are limited to Teams you do not belong to. See Team access.
When there are none, the page shows a short invitation to add one instead of cards.
Search#
The search box at the top of the page reads "Search every Knowledge Base you can read…".
- Type your question or keywords.
- Select Search.
- Select a result to read the full document in a panel on the right. The panel shows the file name and the knowledge base it belongs to; select the knowledge base name to open it.
- Select Close to dismiss the panel.
Each result shows the knowledge base, the file name and a snippet of the matching text. If nothing matches, you see "No matches." Search covers every knowledge base you can read, including human-only ones. If the search tells you an administrator needs to finish setting up search in Settings, ask your administrator to do that.
The knowledge base page#
Select a knowledge base to open it. At the top, ← Knowledge Bases takes you back to the list, and Export downloads the knowledge base and the full text of all its documents as a single JSON file.
The Details card shows the lane, cadence, owner, update path, which Coworkers use it, and its Team. Below it are the sections described in these articles:
Anyone who can see a knowledge base can read its documents, open the page and export it.
